The Elms was established in 1963 by Denis & Geraldine McCarthy – the combination of a Cork auctioneer and a fashionable lady from Co.Kildare who had a passion for quality furniture and antiques.
The land on which The Elms is based was purchased by Denis’s father FD McCarthy who was a farmer from West Cork, who used it to fatten cattle that were sent onto the marts in Dublin City.
What started out as the sale of antiques and vintage furniture via auctions at The Elms, eventually became one of the most loved vintage furniture stores in Ireland as well as a place to purchase “great bargains” as Denis would say!
Denis & Geraldine sourced the items for the store throughout Ireland, the UK as well as mainland Europe.
Today, The Elms is run by the third generation of McCarthy’s – Fergal & Aubrey McCarthy who have overseen major changes in the past number of years.
